FAQs

The verse highlights the clash between worldly standards of a “good husband” and Śiva’s transcendental nature. From a Śaiva Siddhānta lens, it points to the limitation of judging Pati (the Lord) by ordinary social measures, and prepares the movement from external appraisal to inner devotion and surrender.

Virūpākṣa represents Śiva’s awe-inspiring, ascetic Saguna form that may appear unattractive to worldly eyes. Linga-worship similarly trains the devotee to revere the divine presence beyond conventional beauty, status, or “marriageable” traits—seeing Śiva as the supreme reality rather than a social ideal.

The practical takeaway is to cultivate devotion that is not dependent on external attributes: japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and simple Śiva-pūjā (with bhasma/Tripuṇḍra and Rudrākṣa where appropriate) to purify perception and replace judgment with bhakti.
