कामप्रहारः — The Subduing of Kāma (Desire) / Kāma’s Assault and Its Futility
कामपत्नी समादिष्टं नगरं सा गता तदा । प्रतीक्षमाणा तं कालं रुद्रादिष्टं मुनीश्वर
kāmapatnī samādiṣṭaṃ nagaraṃ sā gatā tadā | pratīkṣamāṇā taṃ kālaṃ rudrādiṣṭaṃ munīśvara
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Rudra
Significance: Shows the soul’s (paśu’s) disciplined waiting within divine ordinance—time (kāla) as a modality of māyā/pāśa, yet governed by Rudra; encourages patience and trust in the Lord’s timing.
The verse highlights surrender to Rudra’s ordinance: when actions are aligned with Shiva (Pati), one waits with steadiness for the divinely appointed time, cultivating śraddhā and inner discipline.
Rudra is presented as the personal Lord who actively guides events; in Saguna Shiva worship (including Linga worship), devotees seek and follow Shiva’s ājñā (divine command) rather than merely personal impulse.
A practical takeaway is patient japa of the Panchakshara ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") and calm observance of niyama—waiting without agitation—while keeping devotion steady (optionally with Tripuṇḍra and Rudrāksha as Shaiva supports).
