(Questions on Tārakāsura and Śivā’s tapas) / “Inquiry into Tārakāsura’s origin and Śivā–Śiva narrative”
vajrāṃga uvāca | kimicchasi priye brūhi kiṃ te manasi vartate | tacchutvānamya taṃ prāha sā patiṃ svamanoratham
Vajrāṅga
Tattva Level: pashu
It highlights that sincere intention (manoratha) should be expressed with humility and respect; in Shaiva thought, a purified desire becomes a step toward grace (anugraha) and right action.
The verse sets the devotional mood: before approaching Saguna Shiva (such as in Liṅga worship), one should clarify one’s intention and offer it with reverence—turning personal wishes toward dharma and devotion.
A simple takeaway is saṅkalpa with humility—bow inwardly, state your intention, and then proceed with japa (e.g., “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) or pūjā with a focused mind.
