Narration of Kārttikeya’s Divine Play
nārada uvāca | devadeva prajānātha brahman sṛṣṭikara prabho | tataḥ kimabhavattatra tadvadā'dya kṛpāṃ kuru
Nārada
Tattva Level: pashu
Sthala Purana: Dialogue-setting verse; no Jyotirliṅga. Nārada petitions Brahmā (sṛṣṭikara) to narrate the subsequent events—typical Purāṇic transmission of sacred history.
Role: teaching
The verse highlights śraddhā and humility: the seeker (Nārada) requests the next revelation with an appeal to kṛpā (grace), a key Shaiva Siddhanta emphasis for receiving true knowledge.
Though the verse is a narrative inquiry, it frames devotion through reverent address (“devadeva”) and grace-seeking—attitudes central to Saguna Shiva worship that later culminate in Linga-centered teachings and stories.
The takeaway is the bhāva of supplication: approach Shiva (and the guru/ācārya) with humility, pray for grace, and listen (śravaṇa) attentively—often paired in Shaiva practice with japa of the Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya).
