FAQs

It teaches that honoring the Pitṛs is a dharmic foundation that stabilizes one’s life and undertakings, yielding assured, tangible results; in Shaiva understanding, such righteous conduct supports purity of karma and prepares the devotee for higher devotion to Shiva.

While the verse speaks of Pitṛ-worship, the Shiva Purana places such duties within a larger Shaiva life: fulfilling ancestral obligations reduces karmic obstacles, allowing steadier Saguna Shiva worship (Linga-pūjā) and smoother progress in sādhanā.

Perform Pitṛ-pūjā (and customary offerings such as tarpaṇa) before beginning an important journey or vow; then commence the undertaking with Shiva-smaraṇa—mentally repeating the Panchākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” for auspiciousness.
