Sthala Purana: In Ujjayinī, Śiva’s manifest presence as Mahākāla becomes the city’s spiritual axis; public kīrtana and festival joy are portrayed as the immediate fruit of His grace and protective lordship over the kṣetra.
Significance: Kīrtana and darśana in Mahākāla-kṣetra are framed as bestowing fearlessness, inner steadiness, and Śiva’s anugraha that turns collective life toward bhakti.
Type: stotra
Role: nurturing
It highlights bhakti as an immediate purifier: collective glorification of Maheśa generates uplifting joy that turns the mind toward Śiva, the Pati (Lord) who grants grace and liberation.
In the Kotirudra context (Jyotirliṅga-centered devotion), kīrtana is a primary mode of Saguna Śiva worship—praising the Lord’s names, qualities, and sacred presence associated with the liṅga.
Nāma-kīrtana (repetition/singing of Śiva’s names) as congregational devotion; it can be paired with japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and simple liṅga-upacāra worship.
