Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Rudra
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga legend; it is a doctrinal cosmography: the ‘Saṃhāra-cakra’ as a knowledge-constituted wheel presided by Rudra.
Significance: Meditation on Rudra as presiding intelligence of dissolution is taught to remove fear of death/decay and orient the mind to the nirāmaya-pada (untainted state).
Type: rudram
Role: teaching
Cosmic Event: pralaya/dissolution principle (saṃhāra) as a cosmic function
It presents dissolution (saṃhāra) not as mere destruction but as a Rudra-governed, knowledge-filled divine process that leads the soul toward a painless, untainted state—hinting at liberation through Shiva’s grace and right knowledge.
Rudra is named as the presiding Lord of the saṃhāra principle; in Saguna worship, the Linga represents that very Pati (Shiva) who governs creation, preservation, and dissolution, guiding devotees from worldly affliction toward the nirāmayam state.
A practical takeaway is dhyāna on Rudra as the indwelling Lord of dissolution—pairing japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” with contemplative awareness that all pains and limitations are dissolved in Shiva, the nirāmayam refuge.
