The Fierce Chariot-Duel of Rama and Ravana
तान् दृष्टवारावणश्चक्रेस्वशरैःखंनिरन्तरम् ।।6.109.23।।ततस्थाभ्यांप्रमुक्तेनशरवर्षेणभास्वता ।शरबद्धमिवाभातिद्वितीयंभास्वदम्भरम् ।।6.109.24।।
tān dṛṣṭvā rāvaṇaś cakre svaśaraiḥ khaṃ nirantaram ||6.109.23||
ครั้นเห็นลูกศรเหล่านั้นแล้ว ทศกัณฐ์ก็โต้ตอบ ใช้ศรของตนยิงถมท้องฟ้าให้แน่นหนาไม่ขาดสาย
Seeing the arrows in the sky released by Rama, even Ravana released arrows up to the sky. With the arrows released by both of them, the space became resplendent and by the network of arrows covering it seemed like another sky.
The verse sets up the moral contrast: mere escalation of force is not dharma; dharma is force governed by right purpose.
Rāvaṇa answers Rāma’s volley with an equally dense counter-volley.
Not virtue but intensity—Rāvaṇa’s competitive fury and refusal to yield.
