Ravana’s Chariot, Portents, and Rama–Matali Instructions
निमित्तानि च सौम्यानिराघवःस्वजयायवै ।।।।दृष्टवापरमसम्हृष्टोहतंमेने च रावणम् ।
nimittāni ca saumyāni rāghavaḥ svajayāya vai | dṛṣṭvā param samahṛṣṭo hataṃ mene ca rāvaṇam ||
เมื่อราฆวะทอดพระเนตรเห็นนิมิตมงคลอันบอกชัยชนะของพระองค์ ก็ทรงปีติยิ่งนัก และทรงนับว่าราวณะประหนึ่งถูกปราบแล้วด้วยพระหัตถ์
The flow of arrows (from Ravana) released from the chariot were seen by Rama like the flow of water from rain clouds. Seeing that, Sri Rama made terrific sounds by stretching his bow to crescent shape, and it was as if a mountain struck by thunderbolt had broken and resounding and seeing Matali, charioteer of Indra, Sri Rama spoke as follows.
When dharma is upheld, confidence arises from alignment with truth (satya) and right cause—not from arrogance; the omens symbolize moral order supporting righteous action.
At a crucial point in the duel, Rāma perceives favorable portents and becomes confident that Rāvaṇa’s end is near.
Faith grounded in righteousness—Rāma’s resolve is strengthened by signs interpreted within the dharmic worldview.
