Vyāsa
Concept: A self-controlled renunciant should sustain life through non-accumulative means—alms, or simple forest fare—so practice remains untainted by acquisition.
Application: Adopt ‘need-based’ consumption; avoid turning necessities into identity; keep livelihood transparent and non-exploitative.

Sandhi Resolution Notes: tvāśramaniṣṭhānām = tu + āśramaniṣṭhānām; phalamūlairathāpi vā = phalamūlaiḥ + atha + api + vā (visarga sandhi: aiḥ + a- → air a-).
It prescribes subsistence primarily through bhaikṣa (alms), and alternatively through living on phala-mūla (fruits and roots).
Because the acceptability of alms-based living depends on inner discipline—alms are not indulgence, but a regulated support for a restrained ascetic life.
The ethical lesson is simplicity and non-possessiveness: the renunciant should avoid accumulation and sustain life with minimal, non-harmful means.
