Right Conduct, Offenses Against Brāhmaṇas, Truthfulness, and the Greatness of the Cow

Go-Māhātmya

एभिर्धृताः सदा लोकाः प्रतिष्ठंति स्वभावतः । स्वभावो ब्रह्मरूपोसावेते ब्रह्ममयाः स्मृताः

ebhirdhṛtāḥ sadā lokāḥ pratiṣṭhaṃti svabhāvataḥ | svabhāvo brahmarūposāvete brahmamayāḥ smṛtāḥ

Concept: The worlds endure through an inherent nature (svabhāva) that is Brahman-formed; sustaining principles are Brahman-pervaded.

Application: Cultivate steadiness by aligning with dharmic ‘svabhāva’: truthful conduct, restraint, and devotion; see the sacred pervading ordinary supports of life.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"The three worlds appear as concentric spheres floating in a calm void, each threaded by a subtle lattice of light labeled ‘svabhāva’—an inner law. From the lattice, a serene Brahmanic radiance spreads evenly, showing that stability arises from pervasion rather than force.","primary_figures":["Brahman as formless radiance","Symbolic lokas","Sages as tiny witnesses at the edge"],"setting":"Abstract cosmological diagram rendered as sacred art—concentric lokas with a luminous inner network.","lighting_mood":"serene divine glow","color_palette":["pearl white","pale gold","midnight blue","soft teal","smoky lavender"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: concentric lokas as ornate circular medallions with gold leaf filigree; central Brahman radiance with embossed halo; rich maroon borders, green and blue enamel-like fields, gem-studded accents; traditional symmetry and sacred geometry.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: airy cosmic scene with delicate washes; thin gold lines forming a luminous net through the lokas; tiny sages seated on a cloud-like ledge; refined detailing and cool palette with gentle highlights.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlines around circular lokas; central white-gold radiance; stylized cloud bands and lotus motifs; strong red-yellow-green contrasts with a calm compositional balance.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: lotus-ringed concentric circles representing lokas; intricate floral borders; deep blue ground with gold dots like stars; central radiant bindu; decorative motifs echoing temple textiles."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"meditative","suggested_raga":"Yaman","pace":"slow-meditative","voice_tone":"serene","sound_elements":["tanpura drone","soft temple bells","gentle silence between pādas","distant flowing water"]}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: एभिः + धृताः → एभिर्धृताः; ब्रह्मरूपः + असौ → ब्रह्मरूपोसौ

Brahman

FAQs

It conveys a non-dual metaphysical theme: the worlds are sustained through their intrinsic nature, and that intrinsic nature is Brahman, meaning reality is ultimately pervaded by Brahman.

It indicates that the stability and functioning of the worlds occur inherently—through their own constitution—rather than as an external, intermittent intervention.

Primarily about cosmic order and sustenance: it explains how the worlds remain established and what underlies that stability (svabhāva identified with Brahman).
