FAQs

Saṃsāra is portrayed as a vast ocean, while the Lord is described as the karṇadhāra (helmsman) who pilots beings safely across it—implying guidance, protection, and deliverance.

By presenting the Lord as the active rescuer who “ferries across” beings, the verse highlights reliance on the Lord’s saving power rather than solely on personal effort—an idea closely aligned with devotional (bhakti) surrender.

It encourages humility and trust: recognizing worldly life as difficult to cross alone, one should seek right guidance and cultivate devotion and discipline under the protection of the divine ‘helmsman.’
