Śaṅkara (Mahādeva) speaking to Devī (Pārvatī); the opening request is by Devī.

Concept: Attentive listening (avahitā śravaṇa) is itself a spiritual discipline; remedies to loss of fortune are pursued through deliberate, self-undertaken dharmic action.

Application: When seeking prosperity or stability, begin with disciplined listening and consistent practice; avoid impulsive fixes—follow a structured observance with faith and ethics.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Type: celestial_realm

FAQs

It is a dialogue: Devī (Pārvatī) asks how to attain Lakṣmī’s primacy (prosperity/fortune), and Śaṅkara (Mahādeva) responds, inviting her to listen attentively.

It implies becoming foremost in Lakṣmī—i.e., attaining prominence in auspicious fortune, prosperity, or divine favor associated with Lakṣmī.

The verse emphasizes śravaṇa (attentive listening) and disciplined receptivity as prerequisites for receiving higher instruction about prosperity and right action.
