Jagatīpati (Lord of the world)

FAQs

It refers to a temple service involving washing/cleansing and smearing (anointing) with water as part of maintaining or ritually purifying the Lord’s shrine.

“Jagatīpati” means “Lord of the world,” a devotional epithet for the supreme deity worshiped in the temple context (commonly understood in Vaiṣṇava settings as Viṣṇu).

That humble, tangible service performed in a temple—especially acts of cleanliness and care—carries spiritual merit and is worthy of being taught and remembered.
