FAQs

It praises service to the twice-born (dvijas), abstinence from liquor and meat, dedication to charity, and steadfastness in one’s own prescribed duties (sva-karma).

Moral excellence is linked to disciplined restraint (avoiding intoxicants and meat), active generosity (dāna), and responsibility to one’s rightful duties, along with respect toward learned or ritually trained members of society (dvijas).

In this context it functions as a comparative moral label—“best among vṛṣalas”—indicating that even those classed as vṛṣala are considered most praiseworthy when they embody restraint, charity, and dutiful conduct.
