Narratorial colophon (textual closing formula; no direct speaker in the verse itself)

Concept: Scriptural colophons frame narratives as part of a larger sacred architecture—tīrtha, pitṛ-dharma, and royal exempla culminating in svarga/uttama-gati.

Application: Treat sacred reading/hearing as a disciplined practice: complete sections with attention, remember the context (tīrtha, pitṛ-dharma), and translate it into periodic acts of gratitude to ancestors and service to devotees.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Type: tirtha

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A palm-leaf manuscript lies open on a low wooden desk as a scribe finishes the final colophon line, while a small shrine lamp flickers beside a conch and a pot of sanctified water. In the background, a faint vision of a pitṛ-tīrtha ghat suggests the chapter’s sacred setting and purpose.","primary_figures":["Scribe (lekhaka)","Reciter (paurāṇika)","Subtle pitṛ silhouettes (ancestral presence, optional)"],"setting":"Manuscript room adjoining a tīrtha ghat; inkpot, stylus, ritual lamp, water vessel, garlands.","lighting_mood":"temple lamp-lit","color_palette":["lamp-flame amber","palm-leaf tan","ink black","vermilion red","river-slate blue"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: a paurāṇika and scribe near a small shrine lamp, palm-leaf manuscript with ornate borders, gold leaf highlighting the lamp halo and manuscript frame, rich reds/greens, conch and kalaśa placed reverently, faint ghat architecture behind with gilded accents.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: intimate indoor scene with delicate brushwork—scribe writing the colophon on palm leaves, soft shadows, cool muted palette, a river ghat glimpsed through an arched window, refined faces and textiles, thin floral margins.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: stylized scribe and reciter with bold outlines, lamp and manuscript central, symmetrical arrangement of conch/kalaśa, warm red-yellow-green pigments, temple-wall aesthetic, simplified ghat motif in the background.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: manuscript and lamp framed by elaborate floral borders and lotus motifs, stylized ghats and water patterns, deep blue ground with gold highlights, decorative conch-disc motifs subtly indicating Vaiṣṇava sanctity, intricate textile-like detailing."}

FAQs

It is a colophon: a formal closing line that identifies the Purāṇa section (Bhūmi-khaṇḍa), the embedded narrative contexts (Vena episode, Pitṛ-tīrtha description, Yayāti story), and the chapter title/number.

It signals that the surrounding material includes a description of a sacred place connected with the Pitṛs (ancestors), typically emphasizing rites, merit, and the sanctity of pilgrimage associated with ancestral obligations.

While the colophon itself does not teach directly, the title frames the episode as oriented toward the results of dharma and karmic merit—how righteous conduct, vows, and ritual or moral actions culminate in exalted destinations such as Svarga.
