Dharmāṅgada’s Discourse (Dharmāṅgadopadeśa) in the Mohinī Episode
yaścānuvartate daivaṃ sa pumān gīyate mahān | tā āpado'pi bhūpāla dhanyā yāḥ satyakārikāḥ || 12 ||
Narada (addressing a king: bhūpāla)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
The verse teaches that greatness is measured by alignment with daiva (divine order) and that hardships can become spiritually fruitful when they strengthen satya (truthfulness) and righteous resolve.
By urging surrender to divine ordinance, it supports the bhakti attitude of trusting the Lord’s governance; a devotee treats even suffering as meaningful when it deepens integrity and reliance on the divine.
No specific Vedanga (like Vyakarana or Jyotisha) is directly taught; the practical takeaway is dharma-niti—ethical discipline and truthfulness as the guiding rule for conduct, especially for rulers.
