FAQs

This is a colophon marking the completion of the “Gaṅgā-māhātmya” chapter, signaling that the preceding discourse is to be received as a complete, authoritative unit of tīrtha-glorification (māhātmya) within the Purāṇa.

Indirectly: by framing the chapter as Gaṅgā’s māhātmya, it points to devotional engagement through reverence for sacred tīrthas—acts like remembrance, pilgrimage, and ritual bathing are presented in Purāṇic tradition as supportive practices for Viṣṇu-bhakti and purification.

The verse reflects Purāṇic textual convention (anukramaṇikā-style structuring) rather than a specific Vedāṅga teaching: it identifies book division (pūrva-bhāga), pada, and adhyāya—useful for accurate citation, recitation, and archival referencing.
