The Greatness of Viṣṇu
Uttaṅka’s Hymn, Hari’s Manifestation, and the Boon of Bhakti
punaḥ stuvantaṃ viprendraṃ devadevo janārdanaḥ | idamāha smitamukho hastaṃ tacchirasi nyasan || 50 ||
Suta (narrator) describing Vishnu/Janardana’s action and speech
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It highlights anugraha (divine favor): sincere stuti (praise) draws the Lord’s compassionate response, symbolized by Vishnu placing his hand on the devotee’s head as a blessing and protection.
Bhakti is shown as an intimate relationship: the devotee praises with reverence, and the Lord responds personally—smiling and blessing—affirming that heartfelt devotion, not mere formality, leads to divine attention.
The verse implicitly emphasizes correct stuti and reverential address (viprendra), aligning with Śikṣā (proper recitation) and Vyākaraṇa (accurate usage) as supports for devotional speech, though no technical Vedanga procedure is detailed.
