The Characteristics of Devotion to Hari
nāmasaṅkīrttanaṃ viṣṇoḥ kṣuttṛṭpraskhalitādiṣu | karoti satataṃ yastu tasya prīto hyadhokṣajaḥ || 23 ||
Sanatkumāra (teaching Nārada)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: vira
It teaches that uninterrupted remembrance of Viṣṇu’s names—even in involuntary, difficult, or distracted moments—wins the Lord’s grace, showing bhakti is measured by constancy rather than ideal circumstances.
Bhakti here is practical and continuous: nāma-saṅkīrtana is to be maintained through ordinary bodily conditions (hunger, thirst, slips), indicating devotion is integrated into daily life, not limited to formal worship.
The verse primarily emphasizes sādhana (practice) rather than a Vedāṅga; indirectly it reflects Śikṣā/phonetics and disciplined recitation, since nāma-japa and kīrtana rely on correct, steady utterance of sacred names.
