FAQs

It declares that contempt for satkathā (holy, dharmic discourse—especially Hari-kathā) is a grave offense that blocks purification; reverence for sacred teachings is presented as essential for inner cleansing and spiritual progress.

Bhakti grows through śravaṇa (hearing) and honoring divine narratives; by warning against satkathā-nindā, the verse protects the devotional practice of hearing and valuing Vishnu-centered teachings.

It emphasizes vak-dharma (discipline of speech) and interpretive reverence for sacred instruction—an applied ethical principle aligned with śāstra-study; it is not a technical Vedanga lesson like Vyākaraṇa or Jyotiṣa, but a rule governing how sacred knowledge should be approached.
