तत्करोति तदाचष्टे हेतुमत्यपि णिर्मतः । धात्वर्थे कर्तृकरणाञ्चित्राद्याश्चापि धातवः ॥ ७३ ॥

tatkaroti tadācaṣṭe hetumatyapi ṇirmataḥ | dhātvarthe kartṛkaraṇāñcitrādyāścāpi dhātavaḥ || 73 ||

“ทำสิ่งนั้น” และ “บอกให้รู้สิ่งนั้น”—ดังนี้จึงกำหนดลักษณะของธาตุ แม้เมื่อมีความหมายเชิงเหตุให้ทำ (เหตุมติ/causative) ในความหมายแห่งธาตุ ยังมีธาตุที่เน้นผู้กระทำและเครื่องมือ ตลอดจนธาตุหลากหลายจำพวก เช่น ‘จิตฺระ’ เป็นต้น
