Adhyaya 24 — Kuvalayashva’s Refusal of Gifts and the Vision of Madalasa’s Maya
asatyārthe nṛṇāṃ yāñcāpravaṇaṃ jāyate manaḥ |
satyaśeṣe kathaṃ yāñcāṃ mama jihvā kariṣyati ||

Begging (or asking boons) is ethically constrained by satya: if one’s life is grounded in truth and self-respect, speech will not bend toward opportunistic solicitation. The verse links inner integrity with verbal discipline.
Ethical instruction embedded in narrative (ākhyāna). Not a direct pañcalakṣaṇa segment.
‘Tongue’ symbolizes vāg-indriya; when satya is the governing residue (śeṣa), the sensory faculty is restrained—suggesting an inner vrata where speech cannot be recruited for desire-driven acquisition.
