कृप-अर्जुन रथयुद्धम्

Kṛpa–Arjuna Chariot Engagement

(एको<पि समरे पार्थ: पृथिवीं निर्दहेच्छरै: । भ्रातृभि: सहितस्तात कि पुन: कौरवान्‌ रणे । तस्मात्‌ सन्दधिं कुरुश्रेष्ठ कुरुष्व यदि मन्यसे ।) कुन्तीपुत्र अर्जुन अकेला ही समरभूमिमें समूची पृथ्वीको भी दग्ध कर सकता है, फिर वह अपने सम्पूर्ण वीर बन्धुओंके साथ मिलकर केवल कौरवोंको रणभूमिमें नष्ट कर दे, यह कौन बड़ी बात है? अतः कुरुश्रेष्ठ॒ यदि आप ठीक समझें, तो पाण्डवोंके साथ सन्धि कर लें। दुर्योधन उवाच नाहं राज्यं प्रदास्यामि पाण्डवानां पितामह । युद्धोपचारिकं यत्‌ तु तच्छीघ्रं प्रविधीयताम्‌,दुर्योधनने कहा-किन्तु पितामह! मैं पाण्डवोंको राज्य तो दूँगा नहीं, (अतः उनसे सन्धि हो नहीं सकती तब फिर) युद्धमें उपयोगी जो भी कार्य हो, उसे ही शीघ्र पूरा किया जाय

duryodhana uvāca | nāhaṃ rājyaṃ pradāsyāmi pāṇḍavānāṃ pitāmaha | yuddhopacārikaṃ yat tu tac chīghraṃ pravidhīyatām ||

ทุรโยธน์กล่าวว่า “ท่านปิตามหะ ข้าจะไม่มอบราชอาณาจักรแก่ปาณฑพ เพราะฉะนั้น การตระเตรียมและมาตรการทั้งปวงที่จำเป็นต่อสงคราม จงให้ดำเนินการโดยพลัน”
