Śamī-vṛkṣe śastra-nidhāna and Entry into Virāṭa’s Capital (शमीवृक्षे शस्त्रनिधानम्)

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharmic prudence: when a vow and a larger ethical goal are at stake, restraint and concealment can be legitimate. The Pāṇḍavas manage risk, avoid premature confrontation, and protect their commitment to complete the agreed term of exile and incognito living.

The Pāṇḍavas leave the forest route and enter the Matsya realm, traveling between the Yakṛlloma and Śūrasena areas. They present themselves as hunters and speak accordingly, signaling that they are intentionally hiding their true identities as they approach the next phase of their incognito stay.
