Virāṭa-parva Adhyāya 25: Kaurava Deliberation and the Search Directive (अन्वेषण-आदेशः)
गुप्तचर बोले--नरेन्द्र! हमने उस विशाल वनमें पाण्डवोंकी खोजके लिये सदा महान् प्रयत्न जारी रखा है ।।
vaśiṣṭha uvāca—narēndra! vayaṁ tasmin vipule vane pāṇḍavānāṁ mārgaṇāya satataṁ mahān prayatnaṁ pravartitavantaḥ. nirjane mṛgasaṁkīrṇe nānādruma-latākule, latāpratāna-bahule nānāgulma-samāvṛte vane vicaran, tatra tatra nānāprakāraiḥ teṣāṁ padacihnāni mṛgayāmāsa; tathāpi te sudṛḍha-parākramāḥ kuntīkumārāḥ kena mārgeṇa kva gatāḥ—na vijñātam asmābhiḥ.
สายลับกราบทูลว่า “ข้าแต่มหาราช พวกข้าพระองค์ได้พากเพียรอย่างไม่หยุดยั้งเพื่อสืบหาพวกปาณฑพในพนไพรอันกว้างใหญ่แห่งนั้น ป่านั้นเปลี่ยวร้าง อุดมด้วยกวางหนาแน่น เต็มไปด้วยไม้ใหญ่และเถาวัลย์นานาพันธุ์ เถาเลื้อยแผ่กิ่งก้านสลับซับซ้อน และถูกปกคลุมด้วยพุ่มไม้หลากชนิด พวกข้าพระองค์ตระเวนไปตามถิ่นต่าง ๆ สืบหารอยเท้าด้วยวิธีนานาประการ แต่ก็ไม่อาจรู้ได้ว่าโอรสแห่งกุนตีผู้ทรหดกล้าหาญนั้นไปตามทางใด และไปอยู่ ณ ที่ใด”
