vistareṇābhidhāsyāmi tan me śṛṇuta sarvaśaḥ | vidarbheṣu mahīpālo bhīmo nāma mahīpatiḥ |
The verse models responsible narration and attentive listening: a teacher-speaker promises a complete, orderly account, and the audience is urged to hear it fully—an ethical posture for receiving tradition and counsel.
Bṛhadaśva begins a detailed introduction to a story by identifying its setting (Vidarbha) and a key figure (King Bhīma), establishing the background before proceeding to the main events.
