Mudgala’s Disenchantment with Heaven

Reckless daring (sāhasa) is ethically blameworthy because it ignores foresight and restraint; such conduct does not lead to lasting happiness or flourishing. The verse urges prudence and self-control as part of dharma.
Vaiśampāyana, in the role of narrator, delivers a direct admonition to a Bharata-descendant addressed affectionately as ‘tāta,’ warning him not to repeat a particular rash deed and generalizing the moral consequence that rash actors do not prosper in happiness.
