Kaurava Court Hears of the Pāṇḍavas’ Forest Hardship (वैचित्रवीर्यवंशीयस्य राज्ञः करुणाविचारः)

समालोक्यैकतामेव शशिनो भास्करस्य च । समवायं तु त॑ रौद्रं दृष्टवा शक्रो5न्वचिन्तयत्‌,इस प्रकार चन्द्रमा और सूर्यकी एकता (एक राशिपर स्थिति) तथा रौद्र मुहूर्तका संयोग देखकर इन्द्र मन-ही-मन इस प्रकार चिन्तन करने लगे---

samālokyaikatām eva śaśino bhāskarasya ca | samavāyaṃ tu taṃ raudraṃ dṛṣṭvā śakro 'nvacintayat ||

เมื่อทอดพระเนตรเห็นพระจันทร์กับพระอาทิตย์มาบรรจบเป็นแนวเดียวกัน และเห็นการประจวบแห่งกาลร้ายอันดุเดือด (รौद्र) นั้น พระอินทร์จึงครุ่นคิดอยู่ภายในใจ
