Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the principle of bhāga—rightful allotment in ritual. Offerings in a yajña are governed by dharma and the invoked deity’s due portion; treating them as negotiable human property disrupts ritual order and invites conflict.

Lomasa recounts an incident from a sacrifice where Rudra directly takes the sacrificial animal and proclaims it to be his share, emphasizing his claim and authority within the sacrificial context.
