दैवं तु न मया शक्यं कर्म कर्तु कथंचन । मैं पुरुषार्थसे जितना हो सकता है, उतना संधि-स्थापनके लिये अधिक-से-अधिक प्रयत्न करूँगा; परंतु प्रारब्धके विधानको किसी प्रकार भी टाल देना या बदल देना मेरे लिये सम्भव नहीं है
daivaṃ tu na mayā śakyaṃ karma kartuṃ kathaṃcana |
อรชุนกล่าวว่า “ส่วนสิ่งที่ลิขิตไว้โดยไทวะนั้น ข้าพเจ้าไม่อาจกระทำหรือเปลี่ยนแปลงได้ไม่ว่าด้วยวิธีใด ข้าพเจ้าจะทุ่มเทปุรุษารถะให้ถึงที่สุดเพื่อสถาปนาสันติและการปรองดอง; แต่การหลีกเลี่ยงหรือผันแปรบัญชาแห่งปรารพธ์นั้น มิใช่อำนาจของข้าพเจ้า”
