Duryodhana’s Reassurance and Force-Praise to Dhritarashtra
गदाप्रहाराभिहतो हिमवानपि पर्वत: । सकृन्मया विदीर्येत गिरि: शतसहस्रधा,यदि मैं एक बार अपनी गदाका आघात कर दूँ तो हिमालय पर्वत भी लाखों टुकड़ोंमें विदीर्ण हो जायगा
gadāprahārābhihato himavān api parvataḥ | sakṛn mayā vidīryeta giriḥ śatasahasradhā ||
ทุรโยธนะกล่าวว่า “แม้หิมาลัยซึ่งเป็นภูผา หากถูกคทาฟาด ข้าเพียงฟาดครั้งเดียวก็จักทำให้แตกเป็นแสนเป็นหมื่นชิ้น”
दुर्योधन उवाच
The verse highlights the moral danger of hubris: confidence in brute strength and intimidation can harden one against wise counsel, making ethical restraint and peace less likely—an attitude that accelerates the slide toward destructive war.
In the Udyoga Parva’s pre-war negotiations and speeches, Duryodhana asserts his martial power by claiming he could shatter even the Himālaya with a single mace-blow, projecting invincibility and refusing to yield.
