अध्याय ३९: विदुरेण धृतराष्ट्राय नीत्युपदेशः

Timely Counsel, Association, and Kin-Duty

ऑपन-माज बक। डे - हाथी, घोड़े, रथ आदि। चत्वारिशो< ध्याय: धर्मकी महत्ताका प्रतिपादन तथा ब्राह्मण आदि चारों वर्णोके धर्मका संक्षिप्त वर्णन विदुर उवाच योअ<भ्यर्चित: सद्धिरसज्जमान: करोत्यर्थ शक्तिमहापयित्वा । क्षिप्रं यशस्तं समुपैति सनन्‍्त- मलं॑ प्रसन्ना हि सुखाय सन्त:,विदुरजी कहते हैं-राजन्‌! जो सज्जन पुरुषोंसे आदर पाकर आसक्तिरहित हो अपनी शक्तिके अनुसार (न्यायपूर्वक) अर्थ-साधन करता रहता है, उस श्रेष्ठ पुरुषको शीघ्र ही सुयशकी प्राप्ति होती है; क्योंकि संत जिसपर प्रसन्न होते हैं, वह सदा सुखी रहता है

vidura uvāca | yo 'bhyarcitaḥ sādubhir asajjamānaḥ karoty arthaṁ śaktim anāpahāyitvā | kṣipraṁ yaśas taṁ samupaiti sanantam alaṁ prasannā hi sukhāya santaḥ ||

วิทุระกล่าวว่า—ข้าแต่พระราชา บุรุษผู้ได้รับการยกย่องจากคนดีทั้งหลายแต่ยังคงไร้ความยึดติด และยังประกอบการแสวงหาทรัพย์กับกิจอันพึงทำโดยชอบธรรม ไม่ล่วงเกินขอบเขตกำลังของตน ย่อมได้ยศชื่ออันยั่งยืนโดยเร็ว เพราะผู้ใดเป็นที่พอใจของสัตบุรุษ ผู้นั้นย่อมดำรงอยู่ในความผาสุกเนืองนิตย์
