धन हो या न हो, मित्रोंसे कुछ भी न माँगते हुए उनका सत्कार तो करे ही। मित्रोंके सार-असारकी परीक्षा न करे ।। संतापाद्‌ भ्रश्यते रूप॑ संतापाद्‌ भ्रश्यते बलम्‌ | संतापाद्‌ भ्रश्यते ज्ञानं संतापाद्‌ व्याधिमूच्छति,संताप (शोक)-से रूप नष्ट होता है, संतापसे बल नष्ट होता है, संतापसे ज्ञान नष्ट होता है और संतापसे मनुष्य रोगको प्राप्त होता है

santāpād bhraśyate rūpaṃ santāpād bhraśyate balam | santāpād bhraśyate jñānaṃ santāpād vyādhim ṛcchati ||

มีทรัพย์หรือไม่มีก็ตาม จงให้เกียรติมิตรโดยไม่ร้องขอสิ่งใด; อย่าทดสอบว่าใครเป็นมิตรแท้หรือมิตรลวงด้วยใจคับแคบ. เพราะความเร่าร้อนแห่งทุกข์ทำให้สิริโฉมเสื่อม, ทำให้กำลังถดถอย, ทำให้ปัญญามืดมัว, และท้ายที่สุดนำมนุษย์ไปสู่โรคภัย
