Drupada’s Alarm and Inquiry Regarding Śikhaṇḍinī (द्रुपदस्य भय-विमर्शः)
सो5भिगम्याब्रवीद् वाक्यं प्राप्तोडस्मि भगवन्निति । तमब्रवीत् ततः स्थूण: प्रीतो5स्मीति पुनः पुन:
so 'bhigamyābravīd vākyam prāpto 'smi bhagavann iti | tam abravīt tataḥ sthūṇaḥ prīto 'smīti punaḥ punaḥ ||
เขาเข้าไปใกล้แล้วกล่าวว่า “ข้าแต่พระผู้เป็นเจ้า ข้าพเจ้ามาถึงแล้ว” ครั้นแล้วสถูณะก็กล่าวตอบซ้ำแล้วซ้ำเล่าด้วยใจยินดีว่า “เราพอใจในเจ้า—พอใจยิ่งนัก”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights dhārmic conduct in communication: one should approach respectfully, speak plainly and truthfully, and value the moral significance of a revered person’s approval—approval that is granted when conduct aligns with propriety.
A person approaches a revered figure and announces his arrival (“I have come, O Lord”). The figure named Sthūṇa responds repeatedly with pleased affirmation (“I am satisfied”), indicating acceptance and goodwill toward the visitor.
