Daṇḍanīti and the King as the Cause of Yuga-Order (दण्डनीतिः राजधर्मश्च युगकारणत्वम्)
दुर्गाणां चाभितो राजा मूलच्छेदं प्रकारयेत् । सर्वेषां क्षुद्रवृक्षाणां चैत्यवृक्षान् विवर्जयेत्
durgāṇāṃ cābhito rājā mūlacchedaṃ prakārayet | sarveṣāṃ kṣudravṛkṣāṇāṃ caityavṛkṣān vivarjayet ||
ภีษมะกล่าวว่า “พระราชาพึงสั่งให้ทำลายที่มั่นเล็ก ๆ และที่ซ่อนเร้นรอบป้อมปราการให้สิ้นถึงราก และพึงให้ตัดพุ่มไม้กับต้นไม้เตี้ยทั้งหมด เว้นแต่ ‘ต้นไจตยะ’ อันศักดิ์สิทธิ์ที่เกี่ยวเนื่องกับศาสนสถาน เพื่อมิให้ศัตรูมีที่กำบัง โดยไม่ล่วงละเมิดสิ่งที่ถือว่าศักดิ์สิทธิ์”
