Educational Q&A

That the subtle qualities of the elements—touch in air and sound in space—are not independent realities but are to be understood as pervaded by, and grounded in, Nārāyaṇa; this supports a devotional and non-dual contemplative vision of the world.

In Vaiśaṃpāyana’s discourse within Śānti Parva, the teaching turns to cosmological-metaphysical explanation, identifying elemental qualities (guṇas) and affirming that these too are ‘Nārāyaṇa-maya,’ reinforcing the theme of the Supreme’s all-pervasiveness.
