This line is a colophon rather than a doctrinal verse; it signals the completion of a chapter situated in the Mokṣa-dharma teachings, whose broader aim is to orient the listener toward liberation through right understanding, disciplined living, and inquiry.
The text is closing a chapter: it identifies the work (Mahābhārata), the larger book (Śānti Parvan), the subsection (Mokṣa-dharma), and the immediate dialogic frame (Śuka’s further inquiry), and then marks the chapter count as the 250th.
