कामद्रुम-रूपकः तथा शरीर-पुर-रूपकः

The Desire-Tree and the Body-as-City Metaphors

तत्‌ तेरहं सम्प्रवक्ष्यामि यन्मां त्वं परिपृच्छसि,बेटा! तुम मुझसे जो प्रश्न कर रहे हो, उसके अनुसार मैं इससे भी गूढ़तर अर्थवाले अलौकिक अध्यात्मज्ञानका उपदेश करूँगा, जिसे महर्षियोंने प्रत्यक्ष अनुभव किया है और जिसका वेदान्तशास्त्र--उपनिषदोंमें गान किया गया है यत्‌ तु सम्मोहसंयुक्तमव्यक्तविषयं भवेत्‌ | अप्रतर्क्यमविज्ञेयं तमस्तदुपधार्यताम्‌ जब मोहसयुक्त भाव मनपर छा जाय, किसी भी विषयमें कोई बात स्पष्ट न जान पड़े, जब तर्क भी काम न दे और किसी तरह कोई बात समझमें न आवे, तब समझना चाहिये कि तमोगुण प्रवृत्त हुआ है

tad etad ahaṃ sampravakṣyāmi yan māṃ tvaṃ paripṛcchasi | yat tu sammohasaṃyuktam avyaktaviṣayaṃ bhavet | apratarkyam avijñeyaṃ tamas tad upadhāryatām ||

วยาสะกล่าวว่า “ลูกเอ๋ย บัดนี้เราจักอธิบายสิ่งที่เจ้าถามเรา เมื่อใดเกิดภาวะที่ประกอบด้วยความหลง ทำให้เนื้อหาสาระพร่าเลือน เหตุผลไปไม่ถึง และไม่อาจรู้ได้อย่างแจ่มชัด เมื่อนั้นพึงรู้ว่า ‘ตมัส’—คุณแห่งความมืดทึบและความเฉื่อย—กำลังครอบงำอยู่”
