Śalya Installed as Commander; Coalition Agreement and Battle Arrays (शल्यसेनापत्यारोहणं व्यूहवर्णनं च)

Educational Q&A

The verse foregrounds a truth-claim used to strengthen resolve: declaring “I speak the truth—no doubt” functions as moral and psychological reinforcement in wartime speech, showing how certainty and rhetoric can intensify commitment to a chosen course, whether righteous or misguided.

Sañjaya reports a declaration addressed to Duryodhana that asserts confidence in defeating the opposing forces (the sons of Kuntī and the Somakas/Sṛñjayas) and in taking command with a battle-formation the enemy cannot penetrate; this line seals that assurance with an emphatic ‘no doubt’.
