काउ्चने लोष्ठ भावे च समदर्शी महातपा: । देवानपूजयतन्नित्यमतिथींश्व द्विजैः सह,सोना हो या मिट्टीका ढेला, महातपस्वी देवल दोनोंको समान दृष्टिसे देखते थे और प्रतिदिन देवताओं तथा ब्राह्मणोंसहित अतिथियोंका पूजन एवं आदर-सत्कार करते थे

kāñcane loṣṭha-bhāve ca samadarśī mahātapāḥ | devān apūjayat nityam atithīṃś ca dvijaiḥ saha ||

ไวศัมปายนะกล่าวว่า—มหาตบะผู้นั้นมองทองคำและก้อนดินด้วยสายตาเสมอกัน เขาบูชาเทพเจ้าเป็นนิตย์ และร่วมกับพราหมณ์ทั้งหลายให้การต้อนรับแขกผู้มาเยือนด้วยการอุปถัมภ์ตามควร
