Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the Mahābhārata’s ethic of reverence for sacred landscapes: places become ‘renowned’ through auspicious associations, encouraging the listener to value purity, beauty, and sanctity in the world’s geography.

Vaiśampāyana identifies a specific location on the Sarasvatī’s bank called Subhūmikā, explaining its fame as a beautiful and auspicious play-ground associated with celestial nymphs (Apsarases).
