Slaying of Kaurava princes and the fall of Śrutarvā
sañjaya uvāca | duryodhanena kiṁ kāryaṁ drakṣyadhvaṁ yadi jīvati | yudhyadhvaṁ sahitāḥ sarve kiṁ vo rājā kariṣyati ||
In the crisis of battle, duty and effective action take precedence over anxious dependence on a leader’s presence. The line urges unity and immediate performance of one’s role (kṣatriya-dharma), rather than seeking reassurance from the king.
Amid heavy casualties and confusion, wounded warriors speak up to redirect the troops: instead of looking for Duryodhana or waiting for his support, they should fight together at once; if he is alive, they will encounter him later.
