The verse highlights how collective emotion—here, a jubilant frenzy among unseen beings—can swell into a world-filling tumult, functioning as a portent in the war narrative and reminding the listener that violence and its aftermath draw in forces beyond the human sphere.
Sañjaya reports to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra that a tremendous roar arose and echoed through all directions and the sky, produced by hosts of beings exulting in excitement—an atmospheric, ominous soundscape surrounding the events of the Sauptika episode.
