Educational Q&A

Bhima shifts the moral burden from the insulter to the enabling act: he says Karna’s harsh words reflect a servile mindset, but the deeper cause is the king’s unethical gambling that staked Draupadi, which empowered enemies to speak without restraint. The verse highlights accountability in leadership and the ethical consequences of treating persons as wagers.

In the dice-hall episode of the Sabha Parva, after Draupadi has been staked and humiliation escalates, Bhima speaks to the king in the assembly. He declares he is not chiefly angry at Karna’s taunts; rather, he challenges the king’s decision to gamble with Draupadi, arguing that without that act the enemies would not have dared to insult the Pandavas.
