Educational Q&A

The verse underscores how extraordinary power in war can overwhelm even seasoned fighters, and it frames that terror through the ethical-cosmic lens of Kāla (Time): human prowess and confidence collapse when confronted with forces that seem larger than human agency.

Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that, on seeing Bhīma’s immense, seemingly superhuman strength, the warriors on the battlefield become disoriented and scatter, compared to beings thrown into confusion at the end of an age when Time brings dissolution.
