Educational Q&A

The verse underscores how overwhelming power—especially when framed as divinely sanctioned—can decide outcomes by breaking an enemy’s resolve. Ethically, it highlights that in epic warfare, victory is not only physical but also psychological, and that divine forces are invoked as guardians of a larger dharmic order.

Bhīṣma narrates that Śiva (Sthāṇu/Mahādeva) mounts a chariot, holding a special arrow described as originating from Viṣṇu, the Moon, and Agni. With his bow he makes the opposing forces tremble, signaling the arrival of a formidable divine combatant and weapon.
