द्रोणानीक-व्यतिक्रमः — Kṛṣṇa–Arjuna Break Through Droṇa’s Array
भ्रातृणां मतमज्ञाय त्वया वाचा प्रतिश्रुतम् । सैन्धवं चास्मि हन्तेति तत्साहसमिदं कृतम्
sañjaya uvāca |
bhrātṝṇāṁ matam ajñāya tvayā vācā pratiśrutam |
saindhavaṁ cāsmi hante iti tat-sāhasam idaṁ kṛtam ||
สัญชัยกล่าวว่า “โอ้ธนัญชยะ! โดยมิได้ไต่ถามความเห็นของพี่น้องก่อน เจ้าได้เปล่งวาจาปฏิญาณว่า ‘เราจักสังหารไสณฑวะ (ชัยทรถะ)’ นี่เป็นการกระทำอันหุนหันและเสี่ยงภัยยิ่งที่เจ้ารับไว้”
संजय उवाच
A vow made in the heat of crisis must be weighed against prudent counsel and collective responsibility. Ethical action in war still requires deliberation; speech that binds oneself (pratiśruti) should not be issued without understanding consequences for one’s allies and strategy.
Sañjaya reports and evaluates Arjuna’s declaration to kill Jayadratha. He criticizes Arjuna for making this pledge without first consulting his brothers, calling it a daring—indeed dangerous—undertaking in the unfolding battle.
