Educational Q&A

Steady devotion—expressed through disciplined recitation and attentive hearing of the Śatarudrīya and continual worship of Śiva—invites divine grace; when Śiva is pleased, the devotee gains auspicious fulfillment, including success in difficult, conflict-filled circumstances.

Vyāsa is describing the efficacy of a Śiva-centered sacred account and practice: in the context of war, he presents Śatarudrīya recitation/listening and devotion to Viśveśvara as a means to obtain victory and the fulfillment of excellent aims through Śiva’s favor.
