द्रोणपर्व — अध्याय १६२: प्रातःसंध्यायां युद्धप्रवृत्तिः तथा रजोमेघे संमूढता
“राजन! मैं तुमसे सत्य कहता हूँ कि पाण्डवोंके जीते-जी उनकी सेनाको बलपूर्वक जीतना असम्भव है ।।
sañjaya uvāca | rājann ahaṃ te satyaṃ bravīmi pāṇḍavānāṃ jīvatsu teṣāṃ senāṃ balāt jetum aśakyaṃ || ātmārthaṃ yudhyamānās te samarthāḥ pāṇḍunandanāḥ | kimarthaṃ tava sainyāni na haniṣyanti bhārata || bharatanandana pāṇḍavāḥ śaktimantaḥ sva-arthāya yudhyante; tataḥ kathaṃ te tava senānāṃ saṃhāraṃ na kariṣyanti ||
ข้าแต่พระราชา ข้าขอกล่าวความจริงแก่ท่านว่า ตราบใดที่เหล่าปาณฑพยังมีชีวิตอยู่ ย่อมเป็นไปไม่ได้ที่จะเอาชนะกองทัพของพวกเขาด้วยกำลังล้วน ๆ โอ้ภารตะ บุตรแห่งปาณฑุนั้นทรงความสามารถและรบเพื่อเหตุของตนเอง แล้วเหตุใดเล่าพวกเขาจะไม่สังหารกองทัพของท่าน?
